While coffee may kickstart your morning, tea often takes over by evening. But before tossing that used tea bag, consider this: it might still have a lot to offer.
Inspired by a tip from my grandmother, I’ve learned that old tea bags can be repurposed in clever, practical ways — some may even save you money!
1. Soothe sunburns:
Cool a black tea bag under water and apply to sunburned skin. The tannic acid helps soothe and heal.
2. Ease minor burns:
Black tea’s tannins can also calm minor kitchen burns — just press a used tea bag gently on the area.
3. Fight warts:
Green tea’s antioxidants may reduce warts. Apply a cooled used tea bag for 15 minutes twice daily for several days.
4. Reduce puffy eyes:
Chill used black tea bags in the fridge and place on eyes to minimize swelling and tired look.
5. Cut grease on dishes:
Soak greasy dishes with a few used tea bags in warm water — they help break down tough stains.
6. Kill weeds naturally:
Spray brewed black tea or a mix of tea, citrus, and vinegar directly on weeds for a DIY solution.
7. Boost your plants:
Bury used tea bags or loose tea near plant roots or add to compost. Roses, houseplants, and ferns love it!
