Actor Gary Sinise and his family are mourning the loss of his 33-year-old son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, who passed away after a battle with a rare cancer called Chordoma. Gary shared the heartbreaking news on the Gary Sinise Foundation’s website and Instagram, revealing that Mac had been fighting the disease since August 2018, shortly after Gary’s wife, Moira Harris, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. While Moira successfully went into remission, Mac’s condition worsened, affecting his strength and mobility.

Despite his health challenges, Mac pursued his passion for music, studying songwriting at the University of Southern California and working as an assistant manager of education and outreach at the Gary Sinise Foundation. He performed as a drummer with his father in the Lt. Dan Band and completed an album, Resurrection & Revival, before his death.

Gary expressed the profound grief of losing a child, acknowledging how difficult it is for any parent and offering his condolences to others who have experienced such loss. He reflected on Mac’s five-year cancer battle, stating that while they miss him deeply, they are comforted by the knowledge that Mac is no longer suffering.

Mac’s legacy will continue through his family, and Gary is committed to honoring him by releasing Mac’s album on vinyl. The Sinise family is in the thoughts of many during this challenging time.
