A decade after Robin Williams’ tragic passing, Billy Connolly opened up about the actor’s heartbreaking final words

It’s been ten years since the world lost Robin Williams, one of the most beloved actors and comedians. Known for his infectious smile and ability to make everyone laugh, his tragic death left fans puzzled about how someone so cheerful could end his life in such a manner.

However, the autopsy revealed that Williams had Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), a severe neurological disease, not Parkinson’s disease as initially diagnosed. In his final years, Williams struggled with memory issues, which caused him great frustration and anxiety. His son Zak described this period as one of intense searching and devastation.

Williams’ wife, Susan Schneider Williams, shared that doctors later confirmed his was one of the worst cases of LBD they had seen, with significant neuron loss throughout his brain. She recounted how his health deteriorated, starting with digestive issues and a tremor, which eventually led to his tragic end. Susan described his final days as a nightmare.

Close friends, like Sir Billy Connolly, who also suffers from Parkinson’s, reflected on Williams’ decision to take his own life. Connolly recalled their last conversation.

“He phoned me and said, ‘Let’s have dinner,’ and during the dinner, he said, ‘I love you.’ I said thanks very much. He said, ‘Do you believe me?’ I said ‘Of course I do.’ He said, ‘Believe me, I love you.’ I said, ‘That’s great.’”

“I thought ‘how weird, how weird for him to say that, it’s not like his usual.’ He was dead on the weekend,” Connolly continued.
