Political strategist James Carville has called one of Donald Trump’s recent moves “one of the most ignorant acts in US history.” Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has signed controversial executive orders — including renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, eliminating the Department of Education, and passing a major election reform bill.
Trump’s aggressive tariffs have thrown financial markets into chaos, prompting Carville to predict the administration could “collapse” within 30 days. He advised Democrats to simply “play possum” and let Trump’s policies unravel on their own.
In an op-ed for The New York Times, Carville wrote that Trump’s tariffs amounted to “economic warfare” and violated a key rule in politics: never destabilize the economy.
Carville also criticized Elon Musk’s role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), calling him a major factor in increasing Democratic voter turnout. He claimed polling data from a key state showed Musk’s involvement had mobilized Democrats more than even Barack Obama had.
