Donald Trump remains adamant that the US will acquire Greenland, despite Denmark and Greenland rejecting the idea.
During an Oval Office interview on March 28, Trump emphasized Greenland’s strategic importance, citing Russian and Chinese warships in the region. He argued the US couldn’t rely on Denmark for security and claimed acquiring Greenland was crucial for global stability.
Earlier this month, Trump addressed Greenlanders directly, stating, “We support your right to determine your future. If you choose, we welcome you into the US.” He added, “One way or another, we’re going to get it… We will make you rich and take Greenland to new heights.”
The push has frustrated Danish and Greenlandic officials, especially after US Senator JD Vance visited a US base in Greenland unannounced. Greenland’s Acting Prime Minister Mute Egede clarified no invitations had been extended for the visit.
