A massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar and Thailand, followed by a 6.4 aftershock minutes later. The quake, striking at a shallow depth, caused widespread destruction, collapsing buildings and killing multiple people.
In Myanmar, a mosque in Mandalay collapsed, killing at least ten worshippers. Hospitals in Naypyidaw declared a “mass casualty area,” with the death toll expected to rise.
Thailand also suffered major damage, with a state of emergency declared in Bangkok. A high-rise under construction collapsed, killing at least three, while 90 workers remain missing.
Videos captured the chaos as alarms blared and residents fled shaking buildings, gathering in the streets for safety. Rescue efforts continue.
