Donald Trump and Elon Musk have strongly reacted to reports that The Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was mistakenly granted access to classified military plans about an attack in Yemen.
Goldberg was allegedly added to a Signal chat by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, where officials discussed details of a planned strike on Houthi rebels. He claimed he saw information on targets and weaponry just hours before the attack.
When questioned, Trump dismissed the issue, saying, “I don’t know anything about it,” before attacking The Atlantic, calling it a failing magazine.
Musk, as expected, weighed in on Twitter, sharing a satirical joke from The Babylon Bee: “4D Chess: Genius Trump Leaks War Plans To ‘The Atlantic’ Where No One Will Ever See Them.” He added, “Best place to hide a dead body is page 2 of The Atlantic magazine, because no one ever goes there.”
Goldberg later told PBS that it was fortunate he was mistakenly added and not someone sympathetic to the Houthis, as the leak could have put American troops at risk.
Despite the controversy, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt assured that Trump maintains full confidence in his national security team, including Waltz.
