What we’ve learned from declassified JFK assassination files released by Trump to ‘reveal the truth’

More than 60 years after JFK’s assassination, newly declassified records have been released by the National Archives.

The documents reveal CIA surveillance on Lee Harvey Oswald’s visits to Soviet and Cuban embassies before Kennedy’s death, including recorded calls and wiretapping methods. The CIA also monitored Soviet embassies in Mexico City and attempted to recruit double agents.

Records also expose U.S. covert activities targeting Fidel Castro, including past assassination discussions. One document shows Robert F. Kennedy was briefed on such plans, requesting prior notice if the CIA collaborated with the Mafia again.

Additionally, 80 documents focus on RFK’s tenure as attorney general and senator. Only two directly mention his 1968 assassination, one noting that his murder fueled new conspiracy theories about his brother’s death.
