Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte Egede, has firmly rejected Donald Trump’s idea of U.S. control over the island, declaring, “Greenland is ours. We are not for sale.”
Over the weekend, Greenland saw its largest-ever protests, with thousands in Nuuk and other cities chanting, “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders” and carrying banners like “Yankee go home.”
Protesters criticized Trump’s remarks, rejecting claims that Greenlanders support U.S. influence. Egede, who joined the demonstrations, emphasized the island’s unity, calling foreign pressure “completely unacceptable.”
Jens-Frederik Nielsen, leader of Greenland’s largest party, also voiced solidarity, saying, “On this issue, we stand together.”
