Caitlyn Jenner has spoken out in support of Donald Trump’s latest executive order, which bans transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports and threatens to cut federal funding to schools that allow it.
On February 5, Trump, 78, declared from the White House, “Women’s sports will be only for women. The war on women’s sports is over.” He instructed the Education Department to notify schools that allowing trans athletes violates federal law prohibiting sex discrimination under Title IX. Schools that fail to comply will lose federal funding.
Jenner, a former Olympian and transgender woman, publicly supported Trump’s move, posting on X (formerly Twitter):
“Another victory in the fight for protecting women’s sports! President Trump signs an Executive Order keeping biological men out of women’s sports!”
She added that she would lobby sports governing bodies worldwide to follow suit.
Jenner, one of the most well-known LGBTQ+ athletes, has previously stated that she receives more criticism for being a Republican than for being transgender.
Her stance has sparked backlash online, with users questioning her support:
- “You are so confusing.”
- “As a trans woman, are you okay with them erasing trans rights?”
Jenner had also previously celebrated Trump’s victory, posting “Hope is back in America” after he defeated Kamala Harris.
