A tragic collision between an American Airlines jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter has left all 67 onboard presumed dead.
The jet was flying at 325ft, while control tower data placed the helicopter at 200ft, creating an unexplained 100ft altitude discrepancy. Investigators are working to recover the helicopter’s black box from the icy Potomac River to clarify the cause.
NTSB’s Brice Banning called the probe “complex” but confirmed the jet’s black box captured crew reactions before impact.
President Trump blamed the crash on the helicopter flying too high, saying, “That’s not too complicated to understand, is it?”
