On Wednesday, President Donald Trump will sign an executive order banning biological men from competing in women’s sports—a key promise from his 2024 campaign.
Throughout the election, Trump attacked Kamala Harris for supporting trans rights, while Republicans used the issue to gain voter support. Many students and parents voiced concerns over fairness in women’s sports, and a U.N. report found that biological males had won around 900 medals in women’s competitions.
Trump has issued multiple executive orders on gender identity, including:
- Recognizing only male and female sexes under federal law
- Banning gender-neutral passports
- Eliminating federal diversity programs
- Restricting gender-affirming care for minors
Legal challenges are expected, as women’s sports remain a heated debate—especially since swimmer Lia Thomas’ 2022 NCAA win.
