When Jody Plauché was 10, his parents enrolled him in karate lessons with Jeff Doucet, a family friend. However, Doucet molested Jody and later kidnapped him, taking him to Texas and California before being caught by police. Jody later revealed how Doucet groomed him, testing boundaries and manipulating situations to abuse him.
Jody’s father, Gary, devastated by his son’s ordeal, decided to take justice into his own hands. On February 19, 1984, Gary waited at Baton Rouge Metro Airport, where he shot and killed Doucet as he was escorted by police. The incident was captured on camera, and Gary was later sentenced to five years of probation, avoiding prison.
Years later, Jody reflected on his father’s actions, admitting he initially didn’t want Doucet killed but understood Gary’s extreme reaction. Gary, unrepentant, stated he had no regrets. Now in his 40s, Jody works as a sexual assault counselor and authored Why Gary Why?, a book aimed at educating parents and helping others. He has embraced his past, using his experience to support and protect others.
