Girl, 6, and father found dead after she misses school

Hope Gordon, a 6-year-old from West Calder, Scotland, and her father, Mark Gordon, 36, were tragically found dead at their home on January 20 after Hope failed to attend school.

Police Scotland responded to concerns raised by a family member. Hope had been staying with her father under shared custody arrangements. Authorities suspect the incident to be a murder-suicide, with no evidence of third-party involvement.

Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry expressed condolences to the grieving families, who are being supported by specialist officers. He urged the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small.

Chief Superintendent Gregg Banks assured the community there was no wider public risk, emphasizing that this was an isolated tragedy.

Hope, a student at Toronto Primary School in Livingston, was described by head teacher Fiona Linfoot as “bright, bubbly, and affectionate,” deeply loved by friends and staff. Her infectious smile and kind heart will be greatly missed.
