he was supposed to dance at a colleague’s wedding Friday night, celebrate her own first anniversary at the end of the summer, and build on a successful career with the NYPD.
Emilia Rennhack, the off-duty police officer killed in Friday’s horrific nail salon crash in Deer Park, had a future ahead of her filled with hopes and dreams. Married last September to NYPD Detective Carl Rennhack, the 30-year-old Polish immigrant was getting her nails done at Hawaii Nail & Spa when an SUV with an alleged drunk driver behind the wheel smashed through the business’ front window about 4:30 p.m., killing the cop and three others.
The Rennhacks’ family now face unexpected funeral expenses, in addition to the cost of traveling to Poland so that Emilia Rennhack’s family and friends there can properly say their final goodbyes and honor the fallen cop’s memory in the place she called home as a child. To assist the family, a colleague has established a fundraiser at FundtheFirst.com, a crowdfunding platform dedicated to supporting first responders, military personnel and their families.
So far, the fundraising campaign has been flooded with more than 540 donations totaling over $41,000.
“We also want to make sure that her parents, who have already experienced more heartbreak than any parent should, are able to withstand the loss of Emilia’s financial support,” reads the description on the FundtheFirst.com page; Emilia Rennhack’s mother and father live in Queens.
Emilia Rennhack joined the NYPD in 2018 and worked out of the 102nd Precinct in Richmond Hill, Queens. Her husband works in the same precinct.
“Carl and Emilia’s love story was just beginning. They met & fell in love at the 102nd precinct. They recently had their dream wedding in September 2023. Their lives were filled with hopes and dreams for their future together,” the FundtheFirst.com page reads. “Carl and Emilia had just started building their beautiful life together. They had their future ripped away from them.”
