Georgie Swallow, a London-based content producer, is raising awareness about Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer affecting the lymphatic system, by sharing her journey and the symptoms she initially ignored. Diagnosed at 28, Georgie’s treatment led to early menopause before she could have children, deeply impacting her mental and physical well-being.
Her symptoms included severe itching, night sweats, fatigue, and frequent colds. She initially dismissed them as stress-related, even after noticing a lump in her neck. Doctors misattributed her itching to stress or allergies, but no treatment worked. Georgie’s symptoms were subtle, which often leads to late-stage cancer diagnoses.
Experiencing menopause at such a young age felt like “being hit by a bus,” leaving her without peers who could relate. Despite her friends’ support, the lack of shared understanding was isolating.
Now 32, Georgie shares her story to highlight the importance of timely medical attention and to shed light on the mental health challenges posed by early menopause.
