Traveling to Mexico was supposed to be a dream come true for my husband, our two children, and me. However, Luke’s refusal to take pictures of me during the trip raised questions about his feelings, and discovering the truth broke my heart.
Before the trip, I’d learned I inherited my uncle’s property and planned to tell Luke while on vacation. But his constant excuses—“Not now, Hannah” or “Maybe later”—whenever I asked for a photo left me confused and hurt. Finally, while he was in the shower, I checked his phone, desperate to understand his behavior.
What I found shattered me. In a group chat with his friends, Luke had written cruel messages about my appearance: “Imagine, at her weight, she still wants me to take pictures of her. Where would she even fit in the frame?”
Heartbroken, I posted a photo of myself online with the caption: “Is my appearance so unattractive that my own husband won’t take a picture with me?” Messages of support flooded in, while Luke, shocked by the post, pretended not to understand why I was upset.
When I confronted him with his messages, I added, “By the way, I inherited my uncle’s property and assets, so I’m moving there with the kids. We’re done.” His sudden apologies were clearly about the money, not regret for his cruelty.
I packed our things and left with my children. I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m certain I deserve better than a man who disrespects me so deeply.
