Girl Abandoned By Parents For Her Looks Wants To Prove The World Wrong – Now She Models For Vogue

Xueli Abbing, a 16-year-old girl born in China with albinism, faced abandonment as an infant. Her albinism, a genetic condition causing reduced melanin and light skin, hair, and eyes, likely led her parents to leave her at an orphanage. There, she was given the name “Xueli,” meaning “snow white and beautiful.”

Adopted by a caring family in the Netherlands, Xueli found love and support. At 11, she was invited by a Hong Kong designer to model for a campaign celebrating diverse beauty. Despite the discrimination and dangerous myths people with albinism face globally, Xueli considers herself fortunate to have escaped harm.

Her modeling journey gained momentum when a London photographer featured her in a stunning photoshoot, landing her in Vogue Italia in 2019. Reflecting on her success, Xueli advocates for inclusivity in the fashion world and beyond, emphasizing that people with disabilities and differences should be represented as part of the norm.

Passionate about raising awareness, Xueli strives to educate others about albinism as a genetic condition, not a curse, and condemns the violence against those with albinism. She hopes to change perceptions and end harmful practices, declaring, “I want to change the world.”
