Kathy Bates health: Actress ‘went berserk’ after diagnosis of ‘incurable’ condition

Kathy Bates, the Academy Award-winning actress, revealed her battle with cancer in a heartfelt interview with Dr. Phil. Despite her fame, she faced challenges that showcased her resilience and humanity.

A Dual Battle with Cancer

In 2012, Bates publicly shared her journey as an ovarian cancer survivor, diagnosed in 2003. She endured multiple surgeries and nine months of chemotherapy but chose to keep it private, fearing it might impact her career. Reflecting on that period, she revealed, “It really took a lot out of me.”

Later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, a disease with a family history. Choosing a double mastectomy, Bates turned her personal tragedy into an opportunity to inspire others. Her humor and strength remained intact, as she joked, “I don’t miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry’s Law,” while thanking fans for their support.

Living with Lymphedema

Though cancer-free, Bates faces lymphedema, a painful and incurable condition caused by lymph node removal. It affects about 30% of breast cancer survivors, leading to swelling and discomfort. “It’s a souvenir you definitely don’t want,” she said, expressing her initial anger and fear of losing her career.
