A 28-year-old Man With Stage Four Cancer Shares The 6 Warning Signs He Wishes He Had Paid More Attention To

A man diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer is raising awareness about early detection by sharing the warning signs he ignored.

Joe Faratzis, diagnosed at age 28 in 2019, admitted to dismissing symptoms for months and neglecting his doctor’s advice and a CT scan. Now 34, he urges others to prioritize early screenings, saying it could save lives.

Faratzis described his symptoms, including night sweats, fatigue, lower right abdominal pain, frequent bathroom trips, abdominal cramps, constipation, and blood in his stool. Initially brushing these off as minor issues, he was finally alarmed after noticing significant blood during a bathroom visit.

His treatment involved chemotherapy, surgery, and procedures to remove cancerous growths on his colon, liver, and lungs. Thankfully, his health has improved, and he celebrated his first clear CT scan in 2023, marking a year cancer-free in April 2024.

Reflecting on his experience, Faratzis believes that addressing symptoms earlier could have prevented the advanced stage diagnosis. Now an advocate for early detection, he emphasizes the importance of not delaying medical care, stating that a functioning rectum is vital for quality of life
