Hurricane Helene, the deadliest U.S. storm since Katrina, has taken 200 lives across multiple states, including South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. Hundreds remain missing, and almost a million homes are without power. Rescue efforts face challenges due to impassable roads and rugged landscapes.
One tragic story is that of 7-year-old Micah Drye from Asheville, North Carolina. He was swept away by floodwaters along with his grandparents, while his mother, Meghan, survived. Micah’s body was found a quarter-mile from where Meghan was rescued. His aunt, Jessica, shared his final words, “Jesus! Please help me!”
In the wake of the tragedy, Meghan’s sister, Heather Kephart, started a GoFundMe to support Meghan, who lost her son, parents, home, and belongings. The page includes a recent photo of Micah, smiling in a Jurassic World T-shirt.
