Melissa Sue Anderson, star of ‘Little House on the Prairie,’ speaks of her decision to leave Hollywood for Canada

Many of us often wonder what happened to the actors from our favorite old shows. Fans of “Little House on the Prairie” might be curious about Melissa Sue Anderson, who played Mary Ingalls. Despite her popularity, Anderson chose to leave Hollywood and move to Canada.

Anderson’s acting career began with guest roles before she became a central figure in “Little House on the Prairie.” Her performance earned her several Best Lead Actress nominations. Reflecting on her time on the show, Anderson expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that her character Mary was not prominent in the original books.

After the show, Anderson took on smaller roles before marrying television producer Michael Sloan in 1990. The couple moved to Montreal in 2002 with their two children, Piper and Griffin. In 2007, they became Canadian citizens. Anderson decided to step away from showbiz to focus on her family and ensure her children had their own identities.

Though she distanced herself from acting, Anderson still took on small roles in recent years. Her experiences on “Little House on the Prairie” inspired her to write a memoir, The Way I See It: A Look Back at My Life on Little House.
