When Alina and Aaron Edwards learned their nine-year-old daughter, Emma, had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, their world was shattered. Despite their hopes, doctors eventually told them that nothing more could be done to save her.
Facing the devastating news, Emma’s parents decided to fulfill her final wish: to marry her ten-year-old boyfriend, DJ. Unlike most children who might wish for a trip to Disneyland or meeting a celebrity, Emma’s wish was unique and heartfelt.
The community, dubbed “Emma’s Army,” rallied around her, with the Make-A-Wish Foundation stepping in to help. Emma and DJ had previously tried to “marry” at school when they were eight, but this time, their dream was made real with the support of their families and volunteers.
Within two days, everything was arranged for the wedding. Emma, in a purple dress, was wheeled down the aisle by her parents. She and DJ exchanged vows and rings, and he sealed the ceremony with a kiss.
Although Emma returned to rest after the event, her joy was clear. Sadly, Emma passed away just a few weeks later on July 11, 2023, but her final wish had been beautifully fulfilled.
