When couples marry, they usually expect a long life together, but life can bring unexpected challenges. In May 2007, Ryan Finley faced one of those challenges when he couldn’t wake his wife, Jill. Alarmed, he called emergency services and performed CPR. Jill was rushed to the hospital, where doctors determined she had suffered cardiac arrest and fallen into a coma.
For two weeks, Ryan stayed by her side, reading from a Bible brought by her cousin, and praying for her recovery. The doctors eventually advised Ryan to take Jill off life support, as they saw no hope for improvement. Heartbroken, he agreed on the 14th day.
However, just five hours after the life support was removed, Jill miraculously woke up. A nurse called Ryan into the room, where he found Jill talking and asking to go home. To ensure she was fully conscious, Ryan asked her questions about their pets and gave her math problems, all of which she answered correctly.
Though Jill had no memory of the coma, she had to relearn basic skills like brushing her teeth. Her recovery was extraordinary, and Ryan credited divine intervention. The couple viewed this event as a second chance to rebuild their relationship.
Despite Jill’s recovery, Ryan still feels anxious and frequently checks on her during the night. The couple is grateful for the second chance life gave them, and they’re now doing well.
